blocky-lava asked: "But I never got much credit for either either which I guess also feeds into the reluctance..." - Yo, I totally follow you (via RSS). I've subscribed and subsequently deleted so many feeds, but yours remains; I truly enjoy your postings.

Thank you so much.

Anonymous asked: so when's your book coming out?

I wish I could say!

Anonymous asked: love the choice of pictures. are you still posting on your blog??

Unfortunately no. I just don’t have the time. I work about 50+ hours a week, and when I’m home I’m catching up on other things. Eventually I would love to become more consistent on both here and blogspot again. But I never got much credit for either either which I guess also feeds into the reluctance.

Anyway…

Thanks for the compliment!

braidedgraphite asked: I love Joan Mitchells paintings through the early sixties. Wasn't she beautiful. A brassy Chicago broad. Imagine her played by Lindsey Lohan. David

Anonymous asked: On feelings and thoughts - To feel any negative emotion is not a process but a symptom of being. We have a tendency to have feelings in response to feelings, like feeling confused about being sad, or feeling guilty about being angry. It's this analysis of our emotions, this trying to understand our feelings, trying to "learn" from our emotions which leads to real despair and confusion. To feel lonely is a very harmless thing, but to try and dig into the "whys" and hows" is. Embrace the pain.

Everything is context.

machinegunsandacameralens asked: There are billions of people out there to meet. You should never have to feel lonely :)

Maybe the fact that we tend to think in this way - that prospects should be numerical - is what makes me feel quite lonely sometimes.

Anonymous asked: "Loneliness is the human condition. Cultivate it. The way it tunnels into you allows your soul room to grow. Never expect to outgrow loneliness. Never hope to find people who will understand you, someone to fill that space. An intelligent, sensitive person is the exception, the very great exception. If you expect to find people who understand you, you will grow murderous with disappointment. The best you'll ever do is understand yourself, know what it is you want, and not let the cattle stand...

etre-mieux asked: Do you think Nietzsche is right in claiming that "thoughts are the shadows of our feelings - always darker, emptier, simpler" in general? I find that to be quite untrue. I find that my thoughts tend to enlighten my feelings by providing a bit of context and consciousness to help establish where a feeling comes from. Thoughts aren't the shadows of our feelings, but rather the spectacles through which to better view feelings. I love the quotes you post and often find myself pondering them. xo C

I find Nietzsche to be romantic in the same sense as someone like Rousseau- prone to these melodramatic interludes of existential crisis that champion free will but remain snagged by human limitation. I would agree with you. But maybe the disjunct for Nietzsche may have not been necessarily “thoughts” but so much the language we use to translate our feelings into “sense”, thus never quite fully grasping the sensation of the feeling, but deducing it to a term, or a phrase. Incomplete.  Thus, the “shadow”.
